No-Exam Life Insurance
“No exam” describes what may be skipped, not what the insurer ignores. The carrier may still review health answers, prescriptions, prior applications, driving history, records, or other permitted data.
Know which path you are comparing
| Path | Health review | Common reason to consider it | Main caution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Accelerated underwriting | Detailed application plus data; exam may still be ordered | Potentially faster decision with traditionally underwritten pricing | Not every applicant qualifies for acceleration |
| Simplified issue | Short health questions and database checks | Fewer requirements | Lower limits or higher cost may apply |
| Guaranteed issue | Usually basic eligibility without health questions | Access when other coverage is difficult | Graded benefits and high cost per dollar are common tradeoffs |
Questions before applying
- Can the carrier still request an exam or records?
- What is the maximum death benefit?
- When does the full natural-death benefit begin?
- Can the final rate differ from the displayed price?
- Are conversion rights and riders different?
When full underwriting may be worth comparing
If health history is straightforward and timing allows, traditional underwriting may produce a better class, more coverage, or lower cost. Keep the fast option as a separate comparison rather than assuming it is cheapest.
Compare more than speed
Record underwriting path, final class, benefit timing, and contract options.
